Gospel Missionary Baptist Church was started as a vision of a group of believers to reach their community with the precious gospel. In 1955, the property was acquired, and they began to fulfill the vision God had placed on their hearts. There were a few preachers that came and went, and then in 1974, God sent Rev. Ronald Flood. During the pastoral leadership of Rev. Flood, the church would grow from just a handful of members, to 250+. The church was very much alive and well, and it would stay that way for many years. Rev. Flood served faithfully until he stepped down in 2006; he will always loved for his faithful obedience to the Lord. Rev. Flood was called home to be with his savior in 2016.
Not long after Rev. Flood stepped down, God called a former assistant pastor under Rev. Flood to Gospel Missionary Baptist, Rev. David Proctor Sr. During his leadership, the church did well and was stable throughout his pastorate, until the Lord moved him to a new work in 2012. Joseph Magaha was led to the church shortly thereafter and only stayed 2 years until he was led to a new work. The church would be without a pastor for the next year. During this very difficult time, the church would face many trials. The faithful few that remained stayed faithful, and many of those who were left were members dating back to Rev. Floods early years. They would watch as many would walk away and they saw their numbers drop to only 22 members.
Just when it looked like hope was slowly fading, God showed up right on time. This time he would lead another familiar face back to Gospel Missionary Baptist, Rev. Allen Mills was called by God to lead the flock in November of 2015. Rev. Mills is the grandson of the late Rev. Flood, who had been called to preach back in 2006. Rev. Mills was led by God to leave the work he was at and come to Gospel, a place he had called home for many years. During the short time Rev. Mills has been at Gospel, the church has seen a revival much like the one they had seen in Rev. Flood’s early years. The church has seen significant growth during this time and is seeing over 100 in services regularly. Many souls have been saved during this time, and the spirit among God’s people is something that many have never seen before. The Lord is really pouring out his spirit on this church, and we are seeing a revival that many are not seeing today. Gospel Missionary Baptist Church is a healthy, vibrant and very much alive church, God has once again proved himself to be faithful.
